Take a Journey Through our History

1958

Since 1950, Sam Hurvitz worked at the Cape Cod Wrecking and Salvage Company. In 1958, the owners decided that they were going to close the operation. Sam and Ruth Hurvitz made a significant decision to acquire the Cape Cod Salvage and Wrecking Company located on Route 18 in Abington.

1965

Cape Cod Wrecking & Salvage was rebranded to Cape Cod Lumber. The salvage yard business model faded away and the company transitioned to exclusively selling new products
1965

1972

After graduating high school, Sam and Ruth’s son, Harvey Hurvitz, started working full time at CCL and later became a partner with Sam. This marked a turning point for the company as it began an era of growth, expanding its product and service offerings.

1985

Sam Hurvitz retired from CCL and Harvey became the sole owner.

1997

CCL was bursting at the seams and purchased the Mansfield, MA location
1997 Mansfield

2012

Closed Mansfield location. At this time CCL was seeking a larger location that was local to Abington so we could have the entire company in one place. CCL made a momentous move by purchasing the land on Groveland Street in Abington, which now serves as the thriving campus of CCL.

2013

The entire CCL lumberyard started operating out of the Groveland Street Facility. The CCL HomeScapes Design Center & Showroom remained in the Rt 18 location.

2014

Harvey, now 60 years old, decided to start the process of making CCL employee-owned, giving back to the team of people that help make CCL what it is today.

2015

The CCL HomeScapes Design Center & Showroom was relocated to Groveland Street. This moved all of CCL’s operations to one campus where all employee-owners can be together to create the best possible customer experience and company culture.
